How to Reverse the Hinge Pin

Horizon Pivot Pin Reversal

When you use the L-Vinyl as a strike on the sides of the door to make the door swing outwards only, then it is nice to rotate the hinge pin so that the door closes tighter against the vinyl.

This is a Vienna Hinge in Brushed Nickel
Notice that the body is 90 degrees to the Base Plate.
This is how to reverse the hinge Pin:
If you door glass is already installed. You will have to remove the glass. Put wood shims under the glass. Remove the screws and cover plates, then carefully take the glass out and set it aside on wood 2x4 blocks until you are ready to reinstall the glass. Caution the glass may explode.

Not all hinges are reversible. But most are and most of them reverse according to this procedure.

Rotate the body ninety degrees to the base. Some hinges are pretty stiff. If you use pliers to rotate the body then protect the hinge metal with cardboard. You will see the set screws on the back of the body.

2.5mm Allen Wrench will loosen the set screws.
The body of the Hinge will drop down, away form the hinge pin.
Flip the body over.
Note the springs that close the door automatically are located in the block which is attached to the mounting plate. This is removable but it's not necessary to remove it to reverse the hinge pin. If you removed the springs the door would be free swinging.

Set the Body back on the Hinge Pins.

Re tighten the Allen Set Screws
If your hinge looks like this and the screws are on the are on the right then the the tilt is backwards. You must take it apart again and rotate the body as in the picture at right.

If this doesn't work then some sort of four dimensional manipulation is your only hope.

The hinge should be tilted towards the inside of the shower which has the cover plate screws.

Replace the Cover Plate or Re-install the glass.

See the Door installation Page.

You can see that the Body of the hinge is 5 degrees out of plumb. The door will close further into the shower and if you use the SDTL vinyl, then the door will close tighter against the vinyl and open outwards only.
The whole point of this is to make the door close tighter against the SDTL vinyl.
