Headerless
Neo Angle Shower Doors
We generally only do these when the fixed
panel off of which the door hangs is fairly small in width.
We make that panel out of 1/2" thick tempered glass and
the door is 3/8" tempered glass.
The weight of the door is pulling on the 1/2" panel trying
to bend it and tempered glass does bend. See Strength of Tempered
Page. Since the panel has to be 1/2" glass
and the 135° hinges require more notches, and we have
to use bolt-through-the-glass brackets instead of U-channel
and header, the price of these kind of showers is generally
a little more than using a header.
Installation is also more difficult. Using
a header you only have to drill four holes in the tile. Headerless
Neo's require a lot more holes and the position is critical
especially for the panel that holds the door. Neo's with headers
are forgiving in measurments, dimensions and installation.
Headerless Neo's have to be much more accurately measured
and installed.
